Week 26

30th June 2008

The last few weeks  have been a time to hit the books. Joe and Fei have graduated from Greenwich, following their show at the Menier Gallery in Southwark, and research has been going on in the office on a number of projects. Sandra has been looking at the beneficial effects of landscape design in helping create healing environments for dementia patients whilst work has been ongoing on Southwark BSF for the design of sensory trails at Tuke School. We are also currently looking at the design of social and therapeutic horticultural programmes for long term offenders as part of an ongoing PFI project.

Our bid has gone in on Northstow Academy and we are down to the last two on Southwark BSF. We have won the bid for the wind turbine site on the Isle of Wight and are just about to start work on another site to be promoted for mixed use development which will require an LVIA. Work is ongoing on a revised ES for the former Chinnor cement works and for the Chancerygate site in Stockport, a large residential site in West Horsham.

Paul Smith is off enjoying the delights of Glastonbury this weekend and Kay is in Canada. The office trip to the Chaumont Garden festival fast approaches to celebrate our fith birthday just gone.

Week 24

13th June 2008

Top of the pile this week is Liz Simes who has won her first planning inquiry for Lidl. Well done Liz, I am sure there will be plenty more!

The staff appraisals are complete and feedback is coming out to you all early next week. We are setting you all goals to work towards over the next year, as we seek to explore the potential of both you and the team.

Franziska and Heike are off in Barcelona for the week, taking lots of photographs from pavement cafés and bars, and we are pleased to announce that we have recruited Charlotte Kersley from RPS, who joins us in the summer.

Work wise, Honeypot Lane in Stanmore has gone through a value engineering exercise with Chris and will now start on site. Through to the last two on Southwark BSF, we are now refining our proposals for the sample schools and we are starting work on the Agewell PFI bid for dementia care homes in East Sussex. Work is also proceeding on the landscape masterplan and LVIA for Asda New Barnet and on the new prison facilities in Merseyside and Woolwich.

This week we have pitched for a new college in Kent, a new community hospital in Barnet and for a large industrial complex in the Isle of Wight that is the world's leading supplier of wind turbines. We are also pitching to provide educational support for the new academy to be built as part of the Northstowe eco-town near Cambridge.

Finally, our thoughts go out to Francesca this week.

Ti auguriamo tanta forza e pace in seguito alla perdita di tuo padre e mandiamo tutto il nostro affetto a te e a tua madre.

Week 22

29th May 2008

This week Mr Mark Fisk takes pride of place. He has successfully negotiated the Pathway at the first attempt so many congratulations Mark, well done.
Paul Smith is off climbing in the Cuillins on the Isle of Skye, Heike has returned from a long weekend in Germany, Anaïs from the ELASA conference - which she tells us was all work!! Simon Greig has had a few days off with his kids, but really was recovering from cycling 60 miles home last Friday in 2.5 hours.
Joe and Fei have been off this week hanging up their final college presentation as part of their MA at Greenwich. Good Luck.

The next few weeks are staff appraisals and we hope that you participate in them fully and have your say. We have been impressed and pleased with the very positive response we have had on how we run the business and how we look after you.

Work wise we have had another busy week with new jobs kicking off at St Josephs College, Leeds, a new care home project; the Mary Rose Trust in Portsmouth with Wilkinson Eyre and the Daventry Learning Partnership in Northampton with Ryder HKS.

We have pitched for the new NICU unit at Bath Hospital with a landscape scheme that seeks to provide a beautiful and therapeutic environment whilst functioning as a work of art in itself, a new primary school in Richmond, two new prisons with a large element of horticultural and landscape provision, a new technical college in Barking and the Woodberry Phase 2 Bid has been finalised for submission. As the market tightens, particularly in the residential sector, we are launching a marketing initiative targeting the AJ 100 top architectural practices.

Herts BSF, where we are acting as landscape lead on 4 of the sample and non-sample schools has been submitted at the OBC stage and we are just about to finalise the LVIA work. Planning inquiry preparation work has been on-going on Yapton and Waterhall to complete the proofs of evidence whilst work on the detailed drawings for the British Embassy in Abuja is progressing.

One Year Old Today

11th February 2008

Our London office has been open one year this week. Now headed up by Paul Barrett as our studio Director, we continue to establish a strong presence in town. A series of new projects in both education and residential fields has allowed us to grow the office throughout the year.

As part of this growth, we welcome Joe Jackson who joins us from watkins Dally. Joe is currently completing his studies at Greenwich and will be working in our London studio three days a week until he joins us full time in the summer. Good luck Joe. We also welcome Sandra Zivkovic who joins us as a Senior Landscape Architect. Sandra brings experience of HeD and, most recently, teaching as a Senior Lecturer at University College Falmouth. Welcome Sandra.

Our Ladies in Hannover

11th February 2008

We went over to Hannover last weekend to look for an office there. We have a number of German nationals and it is an ideal spot to open an office to attract staff from the University there. Our office will be run by Franziska Höche and Heike Körber. We anticipate it opening in the late Spring. Good luck ladies.
