doha college proposals revealed
05 December 2013
Proposals for Doha College’s new campus in Qatar have been revealed prior to submission of a Qatari planning application in early 2014. The campus will be located on a 6 hectare site in the Abu Hamour district, accommodating 2,000 pupils aged 3-18. The integrated school will provide a common entrance with dedicated wings for the primary and secondary elements of the school under a single roof.
The whole campus acts as a learning resource in its own right and demonstrates the benefits of sustainable approaches through integrated building and landscape design. Passive solar shading measures are complemented by solar chimneys, earth-tubes and the re-use of grey-water. Proposals also blend design references appropriate to the delivery of an English curriculum at an international school set in Qatar, whilst reflecting the college’s open minded approach through the capture of natural daylight.
