OutsideInside hotels evening
29 May 2013
Investors, hoteliers, designers and developers gathered for the OutsideInside Hotels and Luxury Living event at fabrik Landscape’s Bankside studio to explore the creation of ‘earthly delights’ and exclusive guest experiences.
Angela Dingle of Hughan Design and Mike Martyn of fabrik took their guests on a journey through time and across the globe, in search of exclusive and authentic experiences for the modern traveller. Within the rapidly expanding travel industry, tourists go to the earth’s furthest extremities to enjoy a unique experience heightened by contemporary links to the surrounding landscapes, traditions and customs, which seamlessly blend internal and external spaces.
Playing with the relationship between indoor and outdoor areas opens up a wealth of opportunity to expand a hotel’s use and appeal. The Interior Designer and Landscape Architect work together to design spas, dining areas, bars and pools which extend into the hotel grounds through elevated terraces, paradise gardens and secluded courtyards.
This kind of creative thinking powers both the design and promotion of hotels, and has been harnessed by Hotelier and Investor Avi Haim. His first Hotel was the Pantone in Brussels, which gained critical acclaim and was voted “Best Design Hotel in the World” by Condé Nast:Travel + Leisure. Avi seeks out and surrounds himself with creative people to develop hotel concepts that add value to his portfolio.
Nathalie Salas, of the Perfect Boutique Hotel blog, also spoke of guest’s desire to unravel the story behind a hotel’s design. From the influences of Victorian natural history collections at London’s Ampersand Hotel, and contemporary art and design at The Thief in Oslo, the modern traveller wants more from their stay.
The varying perspectives of the Designers, Hotelier and Blogger were widely praised by guests, with Jean Hyatt describing the event as "an absolute joy - full of fun, charm and inspiration". Appreciation of palpable creative energy was expressed by Jutta Oberoi of Oberoi Hotels and Resorts, who attended the event alongside yoo, Hamilton Hotel Partners, Orion Land & Leisure and Robin Partington Architects. Guests were also treated to a canapé preview of Bia Mara’s upcoming Urban Seafood Kitchen planned for London.
