springfield lane development approved
26 January 2016
A new residential development at Springfield Lane, Salford has been granted planning permission.
Located on the former industrial, brownfield site alongside the River Irwell, the scheme includes 100 apartments and 71 two/three storey terraced houses set within new shared surface streets, pedestrian links to the riverside and public open space.
Following consultation with Salford City Council, the proposals were developed to incorporate new shared surface residential streets, a new arrival space at the entrance from Springfield Lane, a communal pocket park for residents, new pedestrian access to the riverside and enhancements to the existing riverside walk.
The shared surface streets are intended to create a safe, family orientated external environment, with paved thresholds, new street trees, ornamental planting and incidental green spaces. Each terraced house will have its own private garden with green living ivy fences delineating the boundaries and timber cycle/bin stores. All residents will have access to a gated communal pocket park/garden incorporating a terraced lawn and seating areas with views out across the River Irwell.
fabrik were appointed to develop the public realm proposals in collaboration with shedKM for Urban Splash.
