thomas gainsborough school approved
23 May 2014
Members of Baberagh District Council's planning and development committee have granted approval to proposals to rebuild Thomas Gainsborough School within the existing grounds. The former Great Cornard Upper School will be demolished and replaced by a new building.
The new school replaces a series of interconnected buildings, releasing a significantly greater area of landscape for educational and social spaces.
Sculptural ground form borders the approach to a welcoming entrance plaza where students will gather in this area at the start and end of the school day. fabrik’s design also provides external classrooms and creates a variety of opportunities for play and student interaction.
The project is being undertaken by Kier Construction Eastern, funded through the Government’s Priority Schools Build Programme, along with the Suffolk New Academy. fabrik developed landscape masterplan proposals in collaboration with Architect Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.
