01 October 2016
fabrik welcomes Becky Sanders to the London Studio.
Becky Sanders - Director of Urban Design and Placemaking
Becky is an experienced Urban Designer and has joined Fabrik as Director of Urban Design and Placemaking. An enthusiastic designer, Becky specialises in the preparation of masterplans, planning applications, research projects, detailed urban design frameworks, design codes and supplementary planning documents. With eleven years experience as an urban designer and project manager, Becky brings a strong foundation of professional and academic knowledge to each of her projects.
Having achieved a first class honours degree in Town and Country Planning, Becky graduated from Oxford Brookes' Joint Centre for Urban Design with a distinction in Urban Design in 2005. Quickly converting this academic potential into professional reality, she formerly lead the masterplanning team at Carter Jonas. Prior to that, she worked at LDA Design's London Office where she was involved in a number of large sustainable masterplans, innovative urban regeneration schemes and extensive stakeholder and community engagement. Becky has experience of a wide range of professional work and is familiar with both challenges of greenfield development and complex regeneration sites, as well as being well versed in the sustainable development agenda.
Her key areas of expertise include:
- The urban design of towns and cities
- Sustainable design of new settlements and urban extensions
- Masterplanning of highly complex industrial sites
- Waterfront developments
- Urban regeneration for both the public and private sectors
During her career to date, Becky has been involved in producing a masterplan and gaining outline planning approval for a new community of 4,000 dwellings and 6,000 jobs at Waverley and a restored coalfield which is set to become a new residential and business quarter for Sheffield and Rotherham. She also prepared a spatial masterplan for Cambridge East, the current site of Cambridge Airport and the largest proposed urban extension to Cambridge.
Becky successfully gained planning permission for the reuse of the former HMS Daedalus Naval Airbase in Gosport and prepared a masterplan and outline planning application for 120 homes at Milford Hospital in Surrey. She was also involved in producing the winning bid for a competition to radically reimage Meridian Water in the London Borough of Enfield, a brownfield regeneration site of similar scale to that of the Greenwich Peninsula. A complex masterplan and SPD aims to transform this industrial wasteland into a cutting edge, contemporary eco-community, providing 3,000 homes and 5,000 jobs. The scheme was highly commended at the 2012 Landscape Institute Awards.
We look forward to working closely with Becky. Welcome to Fabrik!
