play space design competition
22 January 2014
Pupils at Harestock Primary School are designing the first play space to be opened in relation to the first phase of development proposed at Barton Farm, Winchester. They have been invited to invent a theme, name and design ideas through a Play Space Design Competition.
The Play Space will be created within the new development at Barton Farm by CALA Homes. The space will provide children with a dedicated play area within 5 minute walk from their new home, and new play opportunities for children living beyond the site. The playground will be located close to a swale within a green finger of open space which connects to the surrounding countryside.
fabrik briefed 21 student teams during a special assembly and provided colourful competition packs jammed with ideas and worksheets to encourage the development of inventive and creative ideas for the perfect play space.
Small teams of pupils are to design a 400 m² play space for children aged 5 -11 with at least five different types of play equipment / experiences and an emphasis on nature.
The winning entry will be announced on 11 February. The design proposals will be further developed by CALA Homes, Landscape Architects fabrik, a play manufacturer and the Council before the final design is sent to the school.
