brockfield house, essex
Development of a new build low and medium secure 97 bed mental health unit in the Essex countryside.
Runwell Hospital is the last of the large psychiatric hospitals built in England in 1937, and is set in rural Essex. This project provided five medium security and two low security wards; therapeutic, recreational and administrative facilities.
fabrik have created three healing gardens per ward focused on a central communal courtyard and ‘wander loop’ around the building for patients with ground leave. The relaxed, therapeutic landscapes and harmonious outdoor environments are specifically designed to promote nature as a healer.
